How to Use Essential Oils With Wool Dryer Balls
Wool dryer balls are unscented on their own, which is great for sensitive households. If you'd like a light, natural scent, you can add a little essential oil. Here's how to do it right.
What you need
- Wool dryer balls
- Your favorite essential oil
How to scent wool dryer balls
- Add 2 to 3 drops of essential oil to a dryer ball.
- Let it absorb for a few minutes.
- Toss the ball in the dryer with your laundry as usual.
- Reapply when the scent fades.
Use one or two scented balls per load and leave the rest unscented. Not sure how many balls you need in total? See our guide on how many wool dryer balls to use per load.
Safety and care tips
- Use sparingly. Too much oil can stain fabrics or irritate sensitive skin, so test on an old towel first.
- Keep oils and scented balls away from pets and children. Some essential oils can be harmful to animals, especially cats.
- Skip scented balls for baby clothes, bedding for sensitive sleepers, or anyone with fragrance sensitivities.
- Store oils tightly closed and away from heat.
Scent ideas
Lavender is a classic for bedding, while lemon and eucalyptus feel fresh on towels. Stick to one scent at a time so they don't clash.
Why not just use scented dryer sheets?
With wool dryer balls, you choose what goes into your laundry, and the scent is optional. Read how they compare in Wool Dryer Balls vs Dryer Sheets, or shop our 6-pack of XL wool dryer balls.
